This State Archeological Landmark is located in the Solitario region of Terlingua Ranch. It contains the best preserved pictographs I have ever seen. They are estimated to be 2000-5000 years old. Unfortunately, the site was ransacked by artifact thieves before it could be properly excavated by archaeologists.
I've been unable to confirm the identity of these plants and animals. All were found in south Brewster County, Texas. Any help in naming these plants is greatly appreciated. Most plants have multiple photos to show various parts of the plant.

The Big Bend region is home to an incredible variety of wildflowers. Blooming flowers can be found year around. After a good rain, the desert can become a sea of color. Here are just a few of the flowers you might see in the Big Bend region.
Believe or not, there are some trees out here. Hike along a drainage or up in the mountains and you'll find a surprising variety of trees and shrubs. Unfortunately, we've only photographed a few. We'll be adding more soon.
Many species of mammals and birds live in the Big Bend region. Some thrive. Some struggle to survive. We've only had opportunity to photograph a few species. We'll be adding more whenever we're lucky enough to spot and photograph them.
The Big Bend region is home to an amazing variety of reptiles and amphibians. We've been able to photograph a view. We will add more as we encounter them.
Terlingua Ranch and the entire Big Bend region of west Texas is blessed with stunning views. I wish my photos could do justice to the incredible views.
The Chihuahuan Desert features an incredible variety of rocks and minerals. We may not know what most of them are called, but we sure like how they look.
Hope you enjoy these photos from the Basin and the Emory Peak Trail. This is a breathtaking (literally and figuratively) hike with many stunning views.
