On our hike to climb Red Mountain in the southern Wallowas. This was our first hike together, and a daunting one it was, around 17 miles round trip with a loose mountainside to climb to get to the summit.

The return hike from Red Mountain to our cars was slightly uphill for most of the way, and we were tired!

On the very next day the three of us set out to climb Sacajawea Peak, the highest mountain in the Wallowa Mountains and my final Oregon County Highpoint. This is Dennis on the summit.

Dennis watches as Edward Earl and Greg Slayden fix the rope to the SW summit of Mt. Forgotten. I used a simple technique to determine that the highest point was not out on that exposed ridge, but instead was at the other, easily accessible highpoint candidate. By placing the camera on the highest point and shooting over the highest point out on that ridge, a straight line from the lens to a spot far down on Mt. Pilchuck in the distance was created. Simple geometry proves therefore that the point out on that ridge is lower than the point on which the camera sat.
