The main event in Gooding County was getting the 4Runner stuck in what we later learned is called "Idaho gumbo". It took about 24 hours before a gung ho 4WDer from Twin Falls could get up there to yank us out. Meanwhile, I was in no mood for photos, unfortunately, and Dean couldn't find his camera, so there are precious few pix, including none from the rescue itself.

We got stuck on Friday evening. After hiking about .8 mile up the hill from the location at which we were stuck to get the Gooding HP, we went back to the rig and set up camp. We had contacted 911 with our cell phones, and the rescue was planned for Saturday afternoon. We hiked and hitchhiked out to the pavement so the rescuer could find us. Here's Dean on the hike out.

We turned west off of county road 750W and onto 1100N to drive toward Kimama Butte, then on to the HP area.

We found two cairns, one at the correct location and one too far east. The incorrect cairn had a register. This is Dean at the correct cairn I believe.

We met this couple from Boise even though it was Friday afternoon. They arrived soon after we did - what a surprise. They had just come from our next objective, the Gooding HP, and they told us how to get there that didn't have snow. Unfortunately, the mud did us in anyway.

Beautiful downtown Silver City was a rather welcome sight after the arduous drive from Jordan Valley, OR.

The 4Runner easily Martinized the first spot, the 4,763-foot western point just inside the county line. Dean shows his appreciation for the trusty 4Runner.

At the eastern points we first located the benchmark at the southern boundary of sections 33 and 34 in neighboring Washington County.

Yours truly at the benchmark. Since the benchmark was on the county line, we could easily hike due east up the hill to the ridge-top road and locate the northern candidate. Then walking straight south from there (the declination here is 15.712 degrees), we could easily grid the area along the border with Gem County for the southern candidate.
