Grace Episcopal Church solar panels
An array of 97 solar panels was installed on the flat portion of the church's roof in early 2014. Here are pix taken later. I took some of them from the top of the Chamber of Commerce fire escape (next to our church) and a couple from the Public Library across the street.

Grace Float Trip 2014 July 19
Grace Episcopal Church members and friends paddled their way down the Gasconade River on July 19, some in canoes and some in kayaks. The 12 of us put in at the Bell Chute access and (about 12 miles later) came out at the Indian Ford access near Vienna.

Grace Episcopal Church pilgrimage to StL 6/1/14
As part of our parish sabbatical journey, members of Grace Episcopal Church [Jefferson City, MO] travelled to St. Louis after church on June 1. We were joined by members of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension/Northwoods, where former Grace parishioner, the Rev. Marc Smith, is vicar. We began with lunch near Christ Church Cathedral, then spent time in the Cathedral, led by the Rev. Michael Kinman, Dean of the Cathedral. Then we went to the Deaconess Anne House, a ministry of the Diocese of Missouri in partnership with the Episcopal Service Corps [http://episcopalservicecorps.org/]. This video articulates the vision our Diocese had in establishing this place for young people to live in intentional community as they discern God's call in their lives: http://vimeo.com/53435892. Some of the ECS interns spoke with us about their time and learnings there. I wish I had brought out my camera sooner, for there are many highlights I missed -- including our lunch together ... and Dean Kinman talking with us outside the Cathedral about the mixed world in which the Cathedral ministers ... and the stalwart souls who went up the high and tight spiral staircase to ring the Cathedral's awesome bells.
Grace Episcopal Church Flat Tire Bike Ride 2014
For the third year in a row, parishioners from Grace Episcopal Church [Jefferson City, MO] held a late-May family bike ride. This year we had 15 people from 7 households. After church this morning, we met in the Master Gardeners' pavilion (near the Noren river access), had lunch, then shared a nearly 11 mile bike ride. It's been dubbed the "Flat Tire Bike Ride" because in the past two years one of the Nield boys had a flat tire pretty early in the ride. This year, we were all hoping to change our luck. People rode at different speeds, so we took several breaks for water, visiting, and to keep the pack together. Here are my photos from the day.

Fox at Work -- October 2013
We held a press conference on 10/17/2013 to publicize the historic Jefferson Barracks plats and surveys. Secretary of State Jason Ksnder offered the opening remarks. Then I talked about the conservation work. Bill Florich and Art Schuermann (of the Jefferson Barracks Heritage Foundation) talked about the historical significance of the drawings.

1998 Toyota Celica GT Convertible
I'm temporarily driving this car, loaned to me by my sister and brother-in-law, since my car was totalled. It's a gem, and it's for sale. The car has an automatic power roof, power windows/locks, automatic transmission, cruise control, and leather seats. It has about 155,000 miles at this point. I can attest that it runs great, since I've been driving it daily since June 25.

Doing one of my very favorite things: training. This was a conservation training session for new staff in our St. Louis office.
Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge
Spent the last day of our vacation (Jan. 20) at the Merritt Island Refuge, near Titusville, Fla. It shares space with NASA's Cape Canaveral facility. It's amazing to see this ageless wilderness alongside our highest technology. In the background of some of these pix, you can see NASA's launch pads and the Vehical Assembly Building where spacecraft are assembled.
Everglades National Park
After arriving in South Fla. on Jan. 13, we spent a full day in the Everglades on Jan. 15. Visited many of the trails, and took a boat tour thru Buttonwood Canal to Whitewater Bay. Saw tons of gators, crocs, and some of my favorite feathered friends (great blue, little-blue, green herons ... more wood storks than on any of my other trips there ... also my 1st sighting of a purple gallinule!
Nassau Cruise, Jan. 16-19
We departed Miami on the 16th, arrived in Nassau early on the 17th. Spent that day exploring the city, Paradise Island, and Adastra Gardens (see separate album here). Sunday (the 18th) was spent soaking up the sun as we cruised back to Miami, arriving there Monday morning.
Ardastra Gardens & The Marching Flamingoes
Adastra Gardens was a highlight of our time in Nassau on January 17. The flamingoes have been trained over the past 30 years to respond to voice commands ("forward march," "about face," etc.) and seem to LOVE showing off for the visitors.

Ghia transformation
We bought this 1970 VW Karmann Ghia from Lancaster, Pa. in the summer of 2003. Since fall, PLP has been working on it with a couple of friends. First, there was lots of body work and interior restoration to do. Then a new paint job. They're turning it into a hybrid "JagGhia" -- part Jaguar, part Ghia. The final series of pix shows the finished result.
